The Fullerton College Speech and debate team successfully hosted their annual showcase on April 11 to a full house in Room 229. Select students showcased their work which placed them in the top of country at speech and debate competition during the academic year.

Maceo Coleman, Britton Lee, Akayla Cadena, and Roshellee Picado gave stunning individual performances before an audience of their peers and professors.

During the debate portion, Danielle Hyslop and Alejandro Roman-Roche defended establishing a national health insurance program in the United States. Opponents Joshua Kazarian and Even Jensen presented compelling arguments about the stress of such a system on doctors and the economy. After nearly an hour of intense debate, Hyslop’s passion for an improved US health system won out in a close audience vote, 30-27, in favor of the affirmative team.

Jeanette Rodriguez planned the showcase which is hosted by the Communication Studies Department and Humanities Division. Jeff Samano served as a genuine and entertaining emcee. The entire team resumes competition again on May 5 at the Blumer Invitational hosted by CSU Fullerton.
