Statement on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Ruling
Fullerton College is here to support all students regardless of their immigration status and we are incredibly upset by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision, which holds that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program violates federal law. To our DACA students and employees, please know that you belong and are welcomed here. As a campus community, we will continue to advocate for you and your rights.
The contributions of immigrants are the backbone of America’s strength, and we will not waiver in our dedication to providing high-quality education and support to all immigration-impacted students. For more than 10 years, DACA has served as a temporary solution by providing some members of the undocumented community with protection from deportation, work authorization in the United States, and the opportunity to travel outside the United States. DACA students continue to be protected even though the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling determined the DACA Program to be unlawful. To learn more about the state’s higher education commitment to immigration-impacted students, please read a joint statement signed by the CEOs of all three California systems of higher education.
I invite you to join our students and colleagues from across Fullerton College and the North Orange County Community College District during Undocumented Student Action Week, Oct. 17-21 to show solidarity with our immigration-impacted community. One of the many programs hosted includes a Know Your Rights workshop in collaboration with CHIRLA and Cypress College.
