Summer Business Mixer – Aug. 21
Business professionals and leaders will have an opportunity to network and build partnerships while learning more about Fullerton College’s Business Division and how to support students through internship opportunities at the Business Summer Mixer on August 21.
The event will take place near Fullerton College’s Aquatic Center beginning at 5 p.m. and is hosted in partnership with the Fullerton College Foundation, North Orange County Community College District and the North Orange County Chamber. In addition, a free pre-mixer workshop titled “How to Hire an Intern” will be held at 3:45 p.m. in Building 1000, Room 1002.
“The traditional college-to-career transitions are failing, which is one reason Fullerton College’s internship program is expanding; to give students the career launch they need to discover, gain experience and be better prepared for the real world once they complete their certificate or degree program,” said Professor of Business Management and Entrepreneurship Gary Graves. “We believe that exposure to tasks, processes, and business will give students the proximity they need to make informed decisions about their future.”
The workshop will cover ways to utilize an intern from Fullerton College, how to write an intern job description, how to post advertisements on Fullerton College’s career services management system, FC Career Connect, and cover the basic requirements for hosting an intern.
Fullerton College launched its Internship Program in 2017. Students enrolled in the internship course work at a site related to their major, while earning academic credit as supervised by a faculty member.
“There’s a dual benefit to both businesses and students with the internship program,” Graves said. “Business owners are happy because they can obtain low-cost help for a short period of time, while students are happy because they obtain work experience; and many students are offered part-time or full-time positions once their internship is completed.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring plenty of business cards and a raffle prize if desired, to help promote their business. Food and drinks will also be available and parking is free at the student parking lots closest to the Aquatic Center. View the flier for more information and RSVP at https://bit.ly/2YfhgaA
