Summer Camp Excites Students for Careers in Crime Scene Investigations

The biotechnology department at Fullerton College recently hosted its Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Summer Camp. The camp invited high school and college students for four days to gain practical skills in crime scene investigation. Students engaged in various activities, including collecting evidence from a mock crime scene and using hands-on techniques to process trace evidence from different activities.

The CSI Summer Camp is a four-day program offered annually to local high school and college students that aims to prepare them for a career in forensics.

The camp, led by biology professor, Dr. Kimberly Rosales, gave students the opportunity to explore the Fullerton College Crime Lab, hear from the Fullerton Police Department’s forensics team and experience a demonstration of the Fullerton College forensics van–a vehicle with all sorts of crime scene investigation equipment. At the end of the program, students showcased the evidence they collected in a special presentation to their peers.

“Our goal was to provide interested students with the opportunity to explore forensic science and biotechnology as a career option.” said Dr. Rosales. “All students that participated mentioned they would recommend our program to a friend or classmate.”

Dr. Kimberly Rosales lends her expertise as she teaches our students how to excel in the field.

The biotechnology program, in partnership with the Fullerton Police Department, works to excite students through real-life experiences and a challenging curriculum. To learn about opportunities in the biotechnology department, visit the website
