Symphonic Winds Performs at Prestigious Wind Band Festival

Fullerton College’s Symphonic Winds traveled to the Windy City by special invitation to perform at the annual Percy Grainger Wind Band Festival. Named after the celebrated concert band composer Percy Grainger, the festival provided four outstanding ensembles an opportunity to perform at Chicago’s Historic Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center.

Led by music faculty member David Lopez, Symphonic Winds performed a standalone performance of Percy Grainger literature during an afternoon matinee. In addition to the performance, Symphonic Winds had a private clinic with Dr. Mallory Thompson, Director of Bands, Professor of Music and coordinator of the conducting program at Northwestern University.

The Friends of Fullerton College Foundation held a fundraiser to provide financial support to supplement the student contributions. As part of the fundraiser, Symphonic Winds performed a rehearsal on March 7 at Fullerton College for music supporters to get a glimpse of how music is made.

Symphonic Winds is the major performing group for wind, brass, and percussion music majors at Fullerton College. Symphonic Winds will perform at Fullerton College on Thursday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at the Box Office or over the phone.
