Technology and Engineering Division Welcomes New Department of Drone Technology
The Division of Technology and Engineering at Fullerton College officially welcomed the new Department of Drone Technology. The 17th department in the division, Drone Technology is the first of its kind in the entire California community college system.
The department was founded by Professor and Director of the Fullerton Drone Lab, Jay Seidel. Seidel begun his service at Fullerton College as an adjunct faculty in 2001 and transitioned to full-time in 2005. As an educator, he trains pilots to develop workforce skills and offers multiple professional certifications and degrees for drone operations. He has also taught drone courses at California State Universities Long Beach and Channel Islands, and has trained students in diverse groups of industries including surveyors at the port of Long Beach, state conservationists and sheriff deputies on drone operations.
Today, Seidel serves as department chair. After a voting process among drone technology faculty and Division of Technology and Engineering Dean, Ken Starkman, the department was able to find its disciplinary home.
“The new Drone Technolgy Department is forward thinking in its training and development of those seeking careers and opportunities in autonomous industries,” Seidel said. “The program is really set to prepare those who are interested in it for success in tomorrow’s workforce.”

The Drone Technology Department is ready to shape positive futures for students looking for a career in a field with opportunity, innovation and fulfillment. Learn more about the opportunities the program offers on the Department of Drone Technology website.
