Tomato Sale Returns with Unique and Rare Varieties

Are you looking to start or expand your garden? Now’s the perfect opportunity to grow a few herbs and veggies by stocking up at the spring Tomato Sale from March 10–12 at Fullerton College.

The Horticulture Department will have a wide variety of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and vegetables for sale. Choose from more than 130 varieties of tomatoes and over 60 varieties of sweet, hot, and very hot peppers, including some high up on the Scoville scale. Habanero, ghost pepper and the infamous Carolina reaper are all available. Unique and rare varieties like the purple tomatillo, which has a tangy-sweet taste, much sweeter than its green counterpart, will also be sold.

The stellar selection and quality of plants allow customers to grow a diverse array of flavors. The tomato varieties for sale include beefsteak, grape, slicer, saladette, cherry, sauce/paste/canning, container/dwarf/micro, and oxheart. A complete list of the tomato varieties can be found at the Horticulture website.

Staff members from Horticulture will be available throughout the event to answer questions about the plants. There will be informational signage throughout the sale describing the plants for customers to learn more about them.

“We are excited for the return of the Tomato Sale and to showcase multiple varieties of cucumbers, squash, basils, corn, beans, and tomatillos, just to name a few,” said Ed Kim Horticulture Lab Technician.

Customers hoping to snag unique and rare varieties are encouraged to shop early as these varieties have quickly sold out in the past. Cash or check will be the only form of payment at the Tomato Sale. Prices start at $4.
