Fullerton College KinderCaminata Sets Building Blocks for College and Career Exploration

An annual tradition that brings kindergartners from local elementary schools together to explore college and career options will return to Fullerton College on Friday, April 21. KinderCaminata celebrates Cesar Chavez’s “Si Se Puede!” (Yes, you can; it is possible!) motto by planting seeds of education early and sets the building blocks for career exploration through lively demonstrations and hands-on experiences.

“KinderCaminata encourages kindergartners to explore their dreams,” said Itzel Marin, Cadena Cultural Center program assistant and KinderCaminata lead. “Through the many STEM-focused and hands-on activity stations we have planned throughout the day, our college students, faculty, and staff will demonstrate that every goal is possible.”

KinderCaminata is a beloved tradition at Fullerton College that has taken place for more than 25 years. The event collaborates with surrounding elementary schools to instill confidence in young students that a path to college and a career is possible for them and their families.

This year’s event is expected to bring 1,200 kindergarteners to Fullerton College from Anaheim, Fullerton, and La Habra City School Districts for a half-day of hands-on learning.

The Cadena Cultural Center has collaborated with various campus departments and programs to host more than 30 activity stations for the young learners. Demonstrations, such as the Teddy Bear Health Examination, facilitated by FC Student Health Services, will teach kindergarteners how healthcare professionals provide health exams and check-ups, while the while the Study Aboard Program will introduce students to studying in places around the world.

In addition, kindergarteners will learn about the life and accomplishments of Cesar Chavez in the week leading up to KinderCaminata.

“Our youth are a reflection of who we are as a community, and we must not underestimate the power of planting a seed,” Marin said.
