APIDA Resource Center Celebrates Grand Opening

Fullerton College recently unveiled the new Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Resource Center with an eventful grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony. Hosted by the APIDA Amplified Team, the event featured an exciting celebration and remarks from President Cynthia Olivo, Fullerton College leaders and special guests.

Special guests included Miss Philippines Chloe Reyes, a Fullerton College alumn and former student trustee, Comedian and Actress Jenny Yang and DJ JACKJACK. Fullerton College students, staff and faculty connected with one another, visited tabling organizations and enjoyed live entertainment. Following the ceremony, visitors toured the new space.

“We want for the center to be a space of joy, rest, relaxation and gathering. Dr. Olivo was kind enough to provide us with a stunning room with gorgeous natural lighting, and we are lucky to be in proximity to Puente and the Rising Scholars spaces.” said APIDA Amplified Team Project Director, Dr. Rosie Kar. “The team created a list of community guidelines, the first of which is requesting our visitors to practice radical empathy with everybody.”

Our Fullerton College community and special guests got to tour the space on the second floor of Building 100 and explore its resources, unique offerings and more.

The APIDA Resource Center is located in Building 100, Room 121. The center aims to provide a supportive and safe space for all Fullerton College students to study, relax and thrive. Its mission is also rooted in three key goals:

  • Increase persistence of APIDA students on campus and ensure students have a comprehensive education plan by their first year of enrollment
  • Reduce disparities and refer students to basic needs programs on campus
  • Increase graduation rates and sense of belonging for students on campus with exciting events, community-building experiences and more
The APIDA Amplified Team did an amazing job hosting the grand opening, generating excitement and hope for our APIDA Hornets!
