Fullerton College Recognized as Gilman Program Top Producing Institution

Fullerton College has been named a Top Producer for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. The Gilman Program provides merit-based scholarships to students with high financial need to study or intern abroad. This recognition reflects our college’s commitment to helping students gain access to international experiences that help them gain competitive skills, global networks and lifelong success.

“This scholarship has provided so many students the opportunity to study abroad that otherwise, they would not have access to,” said Angela Henderson, who served as Study Abroad Coordinator. “Many students come back from the program and serve as ambassadors to encourage others to apply for the Gilman Scholarship. It changes lives.”

The Gilman Scholarship recently awarded four Fullerton College students:

  • Ashley Alaniz – Seville, Spain (Spring 2026)
  • Leila Anderson – Seville, Spain (Spring 2026)
  • Angelique De La Cruz – Berlin, Germany (Summer 2026)
  • Andrea Gaspar – Paris, France (Winter Intersession 2026)

Established by U.S. Congress in 2001, the Gilman Program celebrates 25 years of excellence and opportunity. The award is given to colleges and universities that have supported the most scholars by providing them with the opportunity to pursue educational experiences outside of the country. This year, Fullerton College is recognized for the third time, a testament to its mission to dismantle cost barriers associated with travel.

“All awardees are students with significant financial needs,” said Study Abroad Coordinator, Michael Mangan. “We’re very proud of our efforts but we’re prouder of our students. We remain steadfastly committed to ensuring that the profoundly transformative experience of a study abroad program be extended to as many students as possible in an equitable way, reflective of our college’s core values.”

The Study Abroad Program offers students of all backgrounds the opportunity to go overseas and learn about new cultures, gain global awareness and foster a strong sense of independence and confidence. Open to Fullerton College and Cypress College students, the program is a collective effort on behalf of the North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD).

Students in the program ventured out to countries throughout Europe and Asia, including:

  • Kyoto, Japan
  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • Rome, Italy
  • San Jose, Costa Rica
  • Dublin, Ireland
  • London, England
  • Paris, France

The Study Abroad Program continues to collaborate with Fullerton College faculty to provide compelling experiences for students. During the 2027 Winter Intersession, the program will launch DRON 115 (Aerial Imaging and Storytelling), its first-ever course with the Drone Technology Program in Sydney, Australia.
