Fullerton College Welcomes Spring 2021 Students With New Safety Measures

Fullerton College is pleased to welcome back new and returning students to the Spring 2021 semester starting January 25 with most classes being held online. Only a few courses will be hosted with face-to-face instruction and will follow strict health and safety guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

New safety measures for students attending in-person instruction have also been added to the college’s safety protocols, which will require students to complete and pass a health screening assessment and have their temperature taken at a Check-in Center to be given clearance to attend class each day their class section meetsStudents registered for a face-to-face course were emailed with detailed instructions for safely returning to campus.

“Fullerton College has designed a health screening check-in procedure that is meant to allow for a safe and healthy return to campus,” said Andrea Maciag, special projects coordinator and COVID-19 contact tracer. “The check-in procedure is an important step for our campus community to return to more in-person learning. I am excited to see students again and be a part of their safe and healthy return.”

Prior to entrance into a classroom, students will first complete an online health questionnaire via the Fullerton College Mobile App. The self-assessment may also be taken in-person with a Fullerton College staff member at a Check-in Center. After taking the self-assessment, students will be asked to step in front of an external temperature kiosk, and will be given a wristband that will be required for admission to their class(es) that day, said Maciag. The new Health Screening Check-iCenter will be located at the former Stinger’s Café – Bldg. 840, which is located behind the Library and within walking distance from the Fullerton College parking structure. See this PDF map for details.

Administrators and staff of the college have been working diligently over the winter break to launch the new Check-in Centerwhich included the addition of an online health assessment questionnaire to the Fullerton College Mobile App. The Fullerton College Mobile App features a yellow tile labeled “Daily Student Check-In” which requires students to answer a series of questions related to COVID-19 exposure and symptoms before coming to campus and physically checking-in at the Check-in Center. The Fullerton College Mobile App is available for download in the iOS and Android stores.

“Fullerton College Mobile offers students a one-stop-shop for all essential resources and tools at the college. Since the pandemic drastically changed life at the college, it made sense for us to build out the app to help share safety information and offer a tool to more safely bring students back to campus,” said Lisa McPheron, director of campus communications, adding that anyone who has questions about the app may email campus.communications@fullcoll.edu

Fullerton College Mobile features convenient access to information and support during online learning. All registered students will continue to have access to an abundance of virtual student resources and support, including remote student support services, laptop loans, free WiFi, curbside library and textbook resources, and free weekly groceries distributed through the Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru.
