Fullerton College Art Gallery Showcases Artwork from Permanent Collection
Fullerton College and the Fullerton College Art Gallery are pleased to present New Eyes: Selections from the Fullerton College Art Collections with an opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 4–6 p.m. The exhibit celebrates the permanent collection of Fullerton College and the Fullerton College Art Gallery.
The great painter and educator Wayne Thiebaud was Fullerton College’s first Artist in Residence in 1971. As part of that visit, he donated one of his paintings, “Penny Machines” (1964), to the college’s permanent collection. Thiebaud often remarked that studying art could ultimately result in acquiring “new eyes”—to see more and differently than before.
This iteration of the bi-annual permanent collection exhibition features selections made by the Fullerton College Museum Studies students, faculty, and Photography students. The students bring their “new eyes” and fresh perspectives to the collection by selecting and writing about a favorite artwork to share with the campus community. The Fullerton College art collection works on display are created by a diverse range of artists and span several decades from the 19th century to the present. New Eyes: Selections from the Fullerton College Art Collections will run from Sept. 7 through Oct. 11.
